History:

Founded in 1941 by Carl and Vada Sheid. Carl grew up in retail, working for S. J. Hutchinson in his hometown of Norfork, Arkansas. He learned that the customer is the most important person in any business. "A person who brings us his wants. It is our job to fill those wants!" He has based those principles in every employee at Sheid's. Vada grew up near the White River at Calico Rock where she learned to serve people as their county welfare director. She likes helping her fellowman and not only worked in the family business serving her customers. She was elected the first woman to serve in both the Arkansas House and Senate for which she served for over 20 years.

In 1972, Vada and Carl's son Richard graduated from the University of Arkansas and returned home to help his parents operate the company. The business continued to grow and serve the community. In 1978, the decision was made to build the first in store furniture gallery in Arkansas, featuring beautiful room settings instead of rows of furniture. It was ahead of its time. Customers from all over the country would travel to Mountain Home, Arkansas to see the beautiful store. Richard too, believes in serving his community and state. He was chairman of the Higher Education Board that brought Arkansas State University to Mountain Home and was president of the Arkansas State Furniture Dealers Association.

Today the Sheid family still believes the customer comes first and is the lifeblood of this and every other business. Welcome home�Welcome to Sheid's. We have grown from a small self service general store that sold everything from clothing to groceries to the largest family owned and operated home furnishing center in the Ozarks! Located in North Central Arkansas at Mountain Home, between two beautiful blue lakes, Norfork and Bull Shoals, and near America's First National River, the Buffalo, and the world-famous White River Trout Stream.

The Twin Lakes Area of the Ozarks grew as well as Sheid's. Today our home furnishing center encompasses two city blocks fine furniture antiques, gifts, accessories, bedding and a large home theater and electronics center. Over the years, the Sheid family furnished homes all over the Ozarks and the world from Peru to Saudi Arabia.
